Today, I want to share some simple but powerful lighting design tips that can help you shift the mood and energy of your home, creating spaces that support healing, connection, and peace.

Why Lighting Matters for Your Energy
We often think of lighting in practical terms, lamps, bulbs, overhead fixtures, but the truth is, light sets the tone for how we feel in a space. Natural lighting can help improve sleep and boost mood. On the other hand, harsh or dim lighting can make a room feel heavy or uninspired.
When we begin to see light as energy, we realize it’s a tool for balance. Just as I use music or candles to create ambiance when I cook or meditate, the right lighting choices can nurture us and make our homes feel like a sanctuary. Even five minutes of adjusting lighting in the morning can shift your whole day.
Bring in Natural Light
The most healing light comes from the sun, so please allow yourself to open your blinds in the morning and let the sunlight flood in. When you welcome natural light into your space, the warmth of this light brings clarity and a sense of openness. Often, a little sunshine is the finishing touch you need to bring a room together.
Tip:
Place mirrors across from windows to reflect sunlight deeper into your space. Your candles, chandeliers, sconces, lamps, and spotlights will reflect the same beauty after the sun has gone down. This simple trick not only makes rooms brighter but also makes them feel more spacious and alive.

Warmth over Harshness
When it comes to lighting, it takes time to understand what it means. Sometimes it can mean you are having a cup of tea on a beautiful fall day, and the sun is reflecting on your space, or simply kissing your skin. For me, it doesn’t matter how the light comes in; it has forever brightened my space, sunlight, candles, or spotlights.
One of my simplest mood lighting tips is to change the color temperature of your light bulbs. Cooler, blue-toned light can feel sterile and draining, while warm or daylight creates a welcoming, cozy environment. I always recommend choosing soft-white or warm LED bulbs. They are the best lighting for kitchens and bedrooms, and dining rooms, as they can set the tone for conversations, connection, and rest.
Light as a Reflection of Mood
One of my favorite rituals is dimming the lights and lighting candles when I need to reset. The flicker of a candle feels alive, almost like a heartbeat, reminding me to slow down. In the same way, brightening your space in the morning can lift you into a more energized state.
Try asking yourself: What energy do I want to feel right now? Then adjust your lighting to reflect that intention.

Energy Shifts in Key Spaces
Lighting isn’t only about design; it’s about the way your home holds you. Whether it’s string lights on the porch or a glowing lamp by your bed, the choices you make can shift your energy in meaningful ways.
Bedroom: Keep lighting soft and warm. Avoid bright overheads, opt for bedside lamps or sconces that feel restorative.
Living Room: Use dimmers if possible. This space transitions from lively gatherings to quiet evenings, so flexible lighting is key.
Dining Room: A chandelier or pendant light above the table brings focus, but candles add intimacy and grace.
