Interior Design

Speaks to the Soul

Interior Design

You don’t need a new house to feel at home. Explore how interior design can transform your space to support your healing, hold your joy, and reflect who you’re becoming.
what interior design means to me

what interior design means to me

For me, home has always been sacred, not because of the square footage or the furniture, but because of the way it makes you feel. A healing home should wrap around you like a soft blanket after a long day. It should reflect your growth, hold your joy, and ground you when life feels overwhelming. Interior design, in my world, isn’t about perfection or performance. It’s about presence. It’s about crafting a space that supports who you are today, while holding space for who you’re becoming.

This page isn’t about selling a service. I’m not an interior designer. I’m a woman who has walked through healing, motherhood, change, and faith, and who has learned that the spaces we live in often mirror the state of our hearts. Here, I share how I’ve shaped my home with healing in mind and how you can begin creating your own sanctuary with intentional decorating, one corner at a time.

A Home That Heals

I remember my dark days or times when things felt so messy in my life; those times were easier because when I got home, I was able to breathe the clear air that my organized, nicely decorated, and clean space brought into my life, regardless of my heartaches. Interior Design, much like cooking, saving recipes, and decorating my home, has definitely been one of the most important healing tools on my journey. Back then, I didn’t realize that keeping a beautiful home with warm meals was helping me heal.

What I know now is that our spaces can be medicine. A quiet bedroom with warm light can soothe a tired nervous system. A tidy kitchen with space to cook can reignite your creativity. A clean entryway can invite peace the moment you step inside. Design doesn’t have to be extravagant. It just has to be intentional.

Designing with Intention (Not Perfection)

When I approach a room, I don’t ask, “How can I make this look impressive?” I ask, “How can this space support how I want to feel?” Do I want to feel restful? Energized? Connected? Safe? Inspired? Once I have the answer, the design flows from there. And you don’t need a big budget or a design degree to do this. You just need a little clarity and a lot of grace.

Here are some ways I use intentional decorating in my spaces:

  • Lighting: Soft, natural light is everything. I use sheer curtains to let it in and warm-toned lamps to create a glow in the evenings. I avoid harsh overhead lighting when I can. Lighting sets the mood, so make it match the energy you want in the room.
  • Color: Your walls don’t have to be bold to be beautiful. I gravitate toward calming neutrals and earthy tones, colors that invite rest and presence. Paint is one of the simplest ways to transform a space without overspending.
  • Texture: I layer in softness wherever I can: plush blankets, woven baskets, natural rugs, and linen bedding. Texture brings warmth and life to even the most minimal rooms.
  • Scent: Scent is memory. I use essential oils, simmer pots, and candles to create a sense of grounding. Different rooms often carry different aromas depending on their purpose.
  • Sound: Music, white noise, or complete stillness, it all matters. I often keep a playlist on in the kitchen while cooking or set the tone with high-frequency sounds during spiritual practices. Sound is a subtle design element that shifts energy fast.
  • Space to Breathe: Not every corner needs to be filled. One of the most healing things you can do in your home is create space: for movement, for rest, for pause. Bottom line: decluttering is necessary to allow your soul to rest.

When You’re Starting From Scratch

If that’s where you are, I want to tell you something gently: you don’t have to do it all at once.

Start with

  • One drawer
  • One shelf
  • One corner
  • Light a candle
  • Open a window

Rearrange the furniture to make it feel a little more like you. Not the you you used to be; the you you’re becoming. When I was starting over, I couldn’t afford to redesign everything. But I could create one soft spot to rest. One tidy surface that made me feel proud. One ritual to begin again. You don’t need a Pinterest-perfect plan. You just need a little room to breathe, and the permission to begin slowly, with grace.

Need a guiding hand? My blog, The Art of Coffee Table Decor, is the perfect place to start. A coffee table is a small section that can have a big impact on your living space. I’ll walk you through some tips and tricks to style it exactly the way you want.

The Spiritual Side of Interior Design

My interior design choices are often connected to my spiritual practices. I believe a home can hold energy, just like people do. So I treat my space like a partner in healing. I cleanse it with intention. I decorate it with symbols of faith. I anchor it in gratitude.

From decor that resonates with my faith to sacred corners, I intentionally weave my spiritual life into my physical surroundings. You’ll find crystals beside cookbooks, prayer cards tucked into mirror frames, and handwritten affirmations by the bed. To me, these aren’t just decorations; they’re reminders of the life I’m cultivating.

I encourage you to explore what makes your space feel spiritually safe. Whether it’s a candle you light every morning, a meditation nook in your closet, or a vase filled with fresh herbs, your home can become a sacred extension of your inner work.

Designing Through Life’s Seasons

Our homes change with us. They hold our transitions, our heartbreaks, our new beginnings. And just like we outgrow certain habits, we outgrow certain spaces, too. I’ve gone through seasons where everything felt soft and neutral, and others where I craved deep color and bold textures. What once felt grounding started to feel heavy. What once felt cozy began to feel cramped.

That’s the beauty of design; it doesn’t have to stay the same.

You’re allowed to shift things as you grow. Maybe your living room becomes a playroom for a while. Maybe your bedroom becomes your sanctuary after a loss. Maybe your kitchen becomes a gathering space again after years of eating alone.

Your home is not a finished product. It’s a living, breathing reflection of your current season. And there’s so much peace in honoring that. Let your space rise to meet you where you are, not where you were, and not where you think you’re supposed to be. Just here. Just now. Looking for inspiration to get you started? My Home,
My Journey

I share glimpses of my home not to show off, but to invite you in. The choices I’ve made, from paint colors to furniture arrangements, tell the story of where I’ve been and where I’m going. There’s the corner of the kitchen where my boys would sit for homework and snacks. The cozy bedroom that became my retreat during a season of grief. The reading nook where I journal and breathe and return to myself.
When I post photos or share design tips, it’s because I want you to know that healing can happen through the simplest things. Like rearranging a space to let in more light. Or clearing out a drawer and finding room for joy. Your home doesn’t have to be big. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be yours.
